How many porta potties does OSHA require on a job site?

OSHA requires at least 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers for 20 to 199 workers, and 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers for 200 or more. That is the legal minimum in 29 CFR 1926.51(c), Table D-1. It assumes toilets are kept clean.

Legal minimum from OSHA Table D-1. Our recommendation assumes a 40-hour week and one service visit per week.
Crew sizeOSHA minimumOur recommendation (weekly service)

11–2012 units
21–401 seat + 1 urinal4 units
41–802 seats + 2 urinals5–8 units
1003 seats + 3 urinals10 units, or 5 with twice-weekly service

Source: OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Why recommend more than the minimum? A unit serving 20 workers for a full week fills before the next service and starts to smell. One unit per 10 workers keeps it usable. This is a recommendation, not legal advice; confirm site rules with your general contractor.

How often are job-site porta potties serviced?

Job-site porta potties are serviced once a week on a set day. Each visit pumps the tank, scrubs the seat, floor and walls, adds fresh deodorizer, and restocks toilet paper and sanitizer. Sites with large crews, hot weather or 6-day weeks can add a second weekly service.

Tell us your crew's start time and any gate code. If a site is locked on service day, the visit is missed and we come back on the next route. Need it moved as the build grows? We relocate units on the same property at no extra charge.

Placement rules contractors ask about

Place a job-site porta potty on firm, level ground within 25 feet of where our service truck can park, out of the path of equipment and deliveries. Keep it at least 10 feet from excavations and trench edges. Face the door away from traffic, and stake it on windy open lots.

  • Seasonal load limits: MnDOT and county roads can restrict heavy trucks during spring thaw. Check MnDOT seasonal load limits; rural drops may shift a day.
  • Crane-lift jobs: tell us if a unit must go to an upper floor.
  • Hand washing: required where workers handle paints or contaminants. Add a station.

How many units does my crew need?Count it in ten seconds.

A 100-guest, 4-hour party needs 2 standard porta potties. A construction crew of 10 needs 1 unit with weekly service. Add 1 unit for every 5 on the chart when alcohol is served, and make at least 1 unit wheelchair-accessible at public events.

The event chart we use follows Portable Sanitation Association International (PSAI) planning guidance. Crew numbers show the OSHA legal minimum next to our recommendation. See the full chart and worked examples.

Questions people ask before they bookStraight answers, before you call.

How much is a construction porta potty per month in St. Cloud?

A construction porta potty usually runs $200–$325 per 28-day cycle with weekly service, plus a one-time $75–$150 delivery and pickup charge by distance.

Is it billed by the calendar month?

Construction rentals bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. Thirteen cycles make a year. Billing stops on the day you call for pickup.

Do you offer contractor accounts?

We set up contractor accounts with one card or invoice for all sites, a site list, and a set service day per site. Call to set one up.

Can you deliver to a residential roofing job today?

Same-day delivery to a roofing or remodel job is usually possible across the St. Cloud area when you call in the morning. Tell us the house number and where to set it.

What if the unit gets tipped or vandalized?

Call us right away. We clean up and set it back up. Damage from vandalism, fire or misuse is billed at cost, as described in our rental terms.

Can I get a unit with a sink for my crew?

Add a freestanding hand wash station, or choose a deluxe flushing unit with a sink. Both are serviced on the same weekly visit.
